How on earth did you decide on where to get married?
I’ve lived in this part of Virginia and I still have NO CLUE about wedding location options around here. I know I want to stay local. I know I want to stay cheap. I know I want to stay small and backyard barbeque-y.
Any ideas?

Kleinfeld’s website has a pretty helpful list of venues and such on their site. That’s where I would start.

We didn’t want a church, so we just googled venues until we found our favorite!

the location is the least important part for us, so we found a hall that fit our budget, was big enough to hold 100 people, and was within 30 mins drive from our city. not very helpful, i know :(

I’ve had several friends get married in people’s houses, barns, B&Bs, etc. One gal got married at a kitsch museum.

Mine was easy. haha. Hometown where all our familes are is so small that there really wasn’t much thought needed. Old farmhouses could be gorgeous/cheap.

We eloped, but I catered for a long time and people get married ANYWHERE. Some of the unique locations were some of the best - boat houses, theaters (live, not movie) and parks :-)

I’m not religous, so churches were out of the question. Wanted to have in my mom’s back yard, but the number of people got too big. So we found an old Victorian (huge) house that rents out for events and had the wedding on the porch.

no reason to foreclose yourself to “wedding places.” drive around. if you see a spot you want to get married, ask. worst you can get is no.

It just felt right. We were originally gonna do it in our backyard, but then we started thinking about the stress and not being able to walk away from the mess. Then we went to Tohono Chul and it felt so right.

Check out some local farms/farm markets. A lot of them have nice event venues that are affordable. ~KimiJoy

Call your local parks department and see if they have a pretty park with a hall.
